CITES Standing Committee approved the music industry’s revision of rosewood trade regulations at a meeting held in Sochi, Russia, in October 2018.
The CITES representatives unanimously agreed that the musical instrument trade would not damage the threatened rosewood forest and initially proposed relaxing the burden on the instrument manufacturers since January 2017.
In other words, CITES no longer accepts import and export licenses for finished musical instruments and musical instrument accessories containing Dalbergia. This modification will be resolved at the CITES conference in 2019 and will be implemented as early as 2019.
